Dear Parents,

This month’s issue supports teaching your children about how to develop and enhance their relationships with the Savior and with all of the children of God. You can use the ideas here to develop discussions on how to prepare to make covenants with God and how to improve our relationships with Him and others.

Gospel Discussions

Hope in the Savior

In the article by Elder Gary E. Stevenson on page 4, read how a little girl named Hope and her family trusted the Lord during their trials, and then discuss how Jesus Christ has “held you” through your own trials.

The Greatest Gifts

Share some ideas from Elder Brent H. Nielson’s article about the many miracles and gifts of Christmas (page 40). Discuss with your family the three gifts of Christmas that Elder Nielson mentions at the end of his article. Consider what “gifts” Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ may be asking of you this Christmas season.

Gospel Basics

Making covenants in the temple continues a sacred relationship, first begun at baptism, with Heavenly Father. Review “Preparing to Attend the Temple” on page 22 to learn more about what you or those you love can do to be ready to receive temple ordinances and strengthen your covenant connection with God.

Overcoming the Adversary through Jesus Christ

Revelation

“And they overcame [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony” (Revelation 12:11).

  1. Ask family members how Satan tries to hurt, tempt, or deceive them. Write these on a sheet of paper.

  2. Give everyone a separate red sheet of paper to represent Christ’s Atonement, or “the blood of the Lamb.”

  3. Invite each person to choose a favorite scripture about Christ’s Atonement or use one of the following: Matthew 26:26–28; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 9:14, 22; 1 John 1:7; Revelation 5:9; Mosiah 3:11, 15, 18; Ether 13:10–11.

  4. Have each person copy phrases from their chosen scripture on their red piece of paper. Underneath the scripture verse, each person could write their testimony.

  5. Share the scriptures and testimonies. Attach the red papers on top of the paper from step 1.
