“We Are His Hands: An Evening of Service,” For the Strength of Youth, Dec. 2026.
Youth Activity Idea
We Are His Hands: An Evening of Service
Purpose
Bring joy to people in the community, and feel the joy that comes from giving Christlike service, in small and simple ways.
Instructions
-
Gather the youth and share this thought from President Dieter F. Uchtdorf: “When I think of the Savior, I often picture Him with hands outstretched, reaching out to comfort, heal, bless, and love. … That is what He did during His mortal life; it is what He would be doing if He were living among us today; and it is what we should be doing as His disciples and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. … Our hands can become His hands” (“You Are My Hands,” Liahona, May 2010, 68). Discuss what it means to be the Savior’s hands in bringing joy to others.
-
Divide the youth into small groups, and assign each group a home to visit and spread joy through a simple act of service. Some examples could include:
-
Delivering a small gift (such as a flower, bread, or a treat) and spending meaningful time connecting through uplifting conversation.
-
Changing light bulbs.
-
Cleaning windows, washing dishes, or doing other housework.
-
-
Give the youth a time when they should gather again to talk about their experiences.
Let’s Talk About It
How did your small acts of service help spread the joy of Christ?
How did it feel to be the Savior’s hands today?
What can you do to continue to bring joy to others through Jesus Christ?
