“Compliment Circle,” For the Strength of Youth, Dec. 2026.
Youth Activity Idea
Compliment Circle
Purpose
Spread joy and uplift each other by giving genuine compliments.
Instructions
-
The youth to sit in a circle, and each receives a piece of paper and pen or pencil.
-
The youth write their name at the top of the paper. Then they fold their paper into a series of equal-width pleats by alternating folds forward and backward (it should create an accordion or zig-zag pattern).
-
Everyone passes their paper to the person on their right. After receiving someone’s paper, the youth write a compliment for that person inside one of the folds—something that will bring them joy. Then they pass the papers again and write a compliment for the next (without reading the other compliments). Continue until everyone has written something on each person’s paper.
-
As time and space allows, papers could be passed around the circle multiple times. The following prompts could spark ideas for compliments:
-
What is this person really good at? What is their “superpower”?
-
Describe this person in one word.
-
What do you admire about this person?
-
Let’s Talk About It
How does it feel when to read what others wrote about you? How does it feel to bring joy to others in this way?
What do you think the Savior would write on your paper?
Why does the Savior want us to bring joy to each other with our words?
