4. Becoming a covenant son of God

Study together

I am a beloved son of God, and He has a work for me to do. I live in joy, find strength and purpose in Christ, and rejoice in my noble birthright as a covenant son of God.

“Lift up your head and be of good cheer.”

What reasons did Nephi and his friends have to be sorrowful? (see 3 Nephi 1:6–11). What reasons did the Lord give them to be of good cheer? (see verses 12–14). What message do you feel the Lord has for us in these verses? What are some of the truths or blessings in the gospel of Jesus Christ that bring you joy?

Learn about Joseph,

a just man | Matthew 1:18–25; 2:13–15

Read Matthew 1:18–25; 2:13–15, and list some of Joseph’s Christlike character traits. Why do you think these traits would be important for someone who was chosen to raise the Son of God?

Think about the work God has given you to do. What Christlike character traits can you seek that would help you do that work? Share with each other some experiences when participating with the Savior in His work has brought joy—to you and to others.
