Freed by Truth

Youth Activity Idea

Freed by Truth

Purpose

Share our knowledge of the gospel to help a friend become “free” from “bonds.”

Instructions

  • Choose one person (or more if your group is large) to be bound. Cover their eyes and gently bind their wrists, elbows, knees, and feet. Only the truth will set them free!

  • The youth must help their friend complete five tasks to become free. With each activity, remove one bond:

    1. Sing a Primary song that teaches about Jesus Christ (remove blindfold).

    2. Recite a scripture from memory (unbind elbows).

    3. Name three commandments and how they keep us safe (unbind wrists).

    4. Find a scripture you could use to help a friend who’s feeling sad (unbind knees).

    5. Share a statement from last month’s general conference that builds your faith in Jesus Christ (unbind feet).

  • Once the friend is totally freed, complete a victory feat—a race around the meetinghouse, 10 pushups, or a victory dance.

Let’s Talk About It

Talk about how it felt to be bound and how it felt to be freed. Compare this to the freedom we feel because of the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

What are some gospel truths that are especially valuable to us? What are some simple ways we can share these truths to help others enjoy “the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free” (Galatians 5:1).
