Youth Activity Idea

Three Truths and a Lie

Purpose

Get to know each other and learn about discerning between truth and error.

Instructions

  • Truths about each other. The youth take turns sharing four facts about themselves. Three of those facts should be true, and one should be false. The rest of the youth guess which one is false.

  • A scripture matching game. Give each youth a card or slip of paper with half of a scripture quotation on it. Invite them to complete the truth on their card by finding the person who has the rest of their scripture. That person will be their partner for the next part of the activity. (You could play music while the youth find their partners.)

  • Finding truths in a general conference message. Discuss with the youth the great blessing it is to have prophets to help us learn truth from God and avoid being deceived by the adversary.

Assign each pair of youth a message from the most recent general conference. Ask them to work together to find three statements of eternal truth in the message. They should also create a fourth statement that is not true.

The youth play the “three truths and a lie” game again, this time with statements from the conference messages.

Let’s Talk About It

How can we discern between truth and error when both sound convincing?

What blessings have you seen from following the counsel of God’s prophets?
