Feelings of Easter
When my son returned home after living in Serbia for several months, he told me about an Easter tradition he learned there. Many years ago, it was the grandmother’s role to teach the children about Jesus Christ at Easter. Families would stay up all night talking about Him and decorating red Easter eggs as the grandmother taught.
The next morning, the families would go from door to door and visit their neighbors. They would knock and then say, “Christ has risen,” and the person at the door would answer, “He has risen indeed.” Families would leave a red egg, which would be displayed until the next Easter.
That Easter we invited our grandmother to join us for dinner. I placed one red egg in the middle of the table. Then we asked our grandmother to share her feelings about Jesus Christ. My children sat transfixed. A beautiful spirit filled the room.
It was an evening I will always remember. What are your favorite Easter traditions? (See pages 2, 8, and 16.)
