“Jester,” Friend, Oct. 1987, 15

Jester

By Beth M. Applegate

Autumn is a jester

Attired in red and yellow,

A silly clown with merry ways,

A prancing, dancing fellow

Who splashes every autumn leaf

With brilliant gold and red,

Then, wearying of his frolicking,

Puts leaves and self to bed.
