Self-Reliance and Bohemian Exotic Jewellery
I’ve always been passionate about the idea of creating something that is my own. Using the talents and skills the Lord has blessed me with in order to follow His counsel to be self-reliant is truly a blessing.
We have been counselled by our prophets to become self-reliant, and when we are given a commandment to keep, God will always help us keep it. Starting a business may seem like a temporal thing, but for me it has been a very spiritual experience. He has been with me every step of the way. He wants me to succeed.
I design and create exotic Bohemian-inspired jewellery using rare and precious gemstones sourced from all over the world.
The road to temporal self-reliance is not just about pouring over finances and saving for a deposit. It is a journey of self-discovery. It is the development of spiritual gifts and a way to deepen your relationship with your Father in Heaven as you find your individual purpose and path. Temporal and spiritual self-reliance are completely connected.
My business is not just a way to make money; it is a reflection of my nature and personality. My love of the beach and its beauty has been my inspiration. I have wonderful memories sitting at the edge of a cliff watching the sunset or just taking a walk along the seashore and gazing out at the ocean and its clear turquoise waters. Working with these beautiful gems reminds me of those beautiful memories, and from the first time I saw a turquoise gemstone, I knew that I wanted to work with them to create something beautiful.
Now I had the desire, but I needed to learn new skills. These were things that I knew nothing about. I went to the Lord in prayer and asked Him what I needed to do to develop the skills I needed. As I read from 2 Nephi 28:30, I felt my testimony and connection to the Lord strengthened. It reads:
“For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more.”
I knew that He would support me on my journey and give me personal revelation to guide me on my way. I knew that He wanted me to achieve those righteous desires that I had.
The Church self-reliance course was very helpful. It helped me to refocus on the small and simple things and get back to the basics. I have learnt more about the Lord’s perfect way and how that pertains to every aspect of life, including my business.
As I have put my trust in the Lord, I have become more self-reliant. As I have become more self-reliant, I have become more able to help and serve those around me. This gives me so much joy and peace of mind.
