Notes

Sources presented in the notes include the full reference for the first mention in each chapter, after which a short citation form is generally used within the notes for that chapter. Citations to the Book of Mormon and other Latter-day Saint scriptures usually reference to modern editions. Sources come from a variety of repositories and publications. The names of the following frequently cited repositories are abbreviated in citations: Church History Library, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City (CHL); Family History Library, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Salt Lake City (FHL); L. Tom Perry Special Collections, Harold B. Lee Library, Brigham Young University, Provo (BYU); and Special Collections and Archives, J. Willard Marriott Library, University of Utah, Salt Lake City (UU). Chapter numbers, rather than chapter titles or page numbers, are used in internal cross-references.
