Jesus, Peter, James, and John retire to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus submits to the Father's will and begins to suffer for the sins and afflictions of mankind. He is then betrayed and arrested. Matthew 26:36–57

The Garden of Gethsemane

12/21/23 | 1 min read

After finishing the Passover meal, Jesus went with the Apostles—minus Judas—to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus took Peter, James, and John with Him into the garden and then went on further alone and “fell on his face, and prayed” (Matthew 26:39) as He began taking upon Himself all the sins and pain and infirmities and sicknesses and suffering of all mankind (see 2 Nephi 2:7, 9; Alma 7:11-12). Christ’s suffering was so intense that He bled from every pore (Doctrine and Covenants 19:18).

This post is part of a series sharing the events of the week leading up to the Savior’s Resurrection.
