God helps different people in different ways.

Take Limhi and Alma, for example.

King Limhi’s people and Alma’s people were in almost identical situations: they were both in bondage to the Lamanites.

The Lord helped them both, but He helped them in different ways.

  • Limhi’s people were still repenting of their unrighteousness under King Noah. The Lord helped them escape through strategy—they got the guards drunk and snuck away. (See Mosiah 22:6–16.)
  • Alma’s people, on the other hand, were new converts. They were strengthened by the Lord to endure their trials. Then, when the time was right, He “caused a deep sleep to come upon the Lamanites.” No wine necessary! He later warned Alma when the Lamanites were in pursuit. (See Mosiah 24:23.)

The Lord helped both groups, and they both ultimately made it to safety. Here are three things we can learn from these stories:

  1. Making and keeping covenants with the Lord entitles you to His help. If you decide to baptized and follow Jesus Christ, you will have extra power and spiritual assistance in your life.
  2. Even when we mess up, the Lord will help us as we repent and turn to Him in faith. It is never too late to try again to follow Him.
  3. The Lord sometimes helps different people in different ways even when they are facing similar problems. His solution for you might not be the same as His solution for someone else in the same situation.

Bottom line? The Lord tailors His assistance to each individual. His love for you is personalized and complete!
