Sometimes looking back is the best way to learn!

Here are a few examples.

There’s a running theme in this week’s Come, Follow Me chapters: people wanting to know what happened to other people.

For example, King Mosiah and his people were anxious to know what became of the group that had set out 80 years earlier. So they send out a search party.

They find King Limhi and his people in bondage to the Lamanites and tell them about things back in Zarahemla—including King Benjamin’s important talk (see Mosiah 8:1–3). Then Limhi shares with Ammon what his people have been up to.

This seems to remind Limhi of something else: the record that his people found while searching for the land of Zarahemla. (Spoiler alert: it’s the book of Ether!) Limhi was eager to know if Ammon knew anyone who could interpret the record.

It’s natural to want to understand what has happened, or is happening, to other people. And it can help us develop empathy and charity! It shows curiosity and a desire for knowledge. It can also help us avoid making the same mistakes that others have made.

Mosiah, Ammon, and Limhi are setting a good example here. Be curious about the world around you! See what you can learn about the past and the present. You may be surprised at how valuable it can be.
