Single? Try This on Valentine's Day

02/13/17 | 1 min read

Whether you prefer calling it Valentine’s Day or “Singles Awareness Day,” you can give and receive love this February 14th. The ideas below will make your day more meaningful and help you feel a greater connection to those around you.

This Valentine’s Day do one of the following:

1. Buy a dozen long-stem roses, a box of chocolates, or a bag of Valentine’s candy, and share one with a stranger, friend, or co-worker. (Don’t forget that men like chocolate too.) Be sure to spend time chatting as you share.

2. Send a personalized text or email to friends and family with either a message of appreciation or an expression of love. See how many responses you get. You will probably brighten someone’s day in ways you couldn’t have planned.

3. Buy a box of Valentine’s cards and write a scripture inside about God’s love for His children. Don’t hesitate to give one to a stranger or someone you don’t know well. These scriptures are sure to inspire any recipient:

  • You are loved, first and foremost, by God (1 John 4:18-19).
  • You are graven upon the palms of God’s hands (Isaiah 49:16).
  • For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
  • Be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart (Psalms 31:24).

While doing these things, focus on making others feel great. Avoid the temptation to look inward, feel self-conscious, or over-analyze. Too often we worry what other’s think, not realizing that the thing people usually remember is how you make them feel. Make this Valentine’s Day a treat for others who might otherwise feel lonely, and you’ll find that you enjoyed the day too.
