A stunning song about temples.

04/27/24 | 1 min read
The temple is where heaven “reaches in return.”

Did you see the other post today about the new temples that were announced in general conference?

Here’s a song about temples that is an oldie but a goodie. It’s called “Strength beyond My Own,” and was first published more than 20 years ago as part of a seminary soundtrack.

Back then there were only about 70 operating temples. Today there are more than 300 temples either dedicated, under construction, or announced!

What has not changed over the years is the epic power we can receive as we visit the house of the Lord.

So sit back, relax, listen, and invite the Spirit. Lyrics listed below.

To Think About

What does “[heaven] reaches in return” mean to you? What other feelings do you have about the temple?

“Strength beyond My Own”

Heaven’s light flows through the windows,
Warming even walls of stone.
In the refuge of the temple,
I find strength beyond my own.

[Chorus]
I can feel the pow’r of heaven as I stand on holy ground,
And the Spirit whispers what I long to learn.
Eyes are touched with understanding—
I can see beyond this world.
It’s the place I reach for heaven
And it reaches in return.

Filled with purpose, filled with power,
Granted gifts to lift the world.
In God’s house and in His presence
I am filled with strength to serve.

[Chorus]
