Easter and Christmas Guidelines for Displaying Signs Outside Church Meetinghouses

Easter and Christmas are natural opportunities to invite friends to worship the Savior Jesus Christ. All are invited to join us for Church services as we celebrate His birth at Christmas time and then commemorate His Atonement and Resurrection at Easter. Because He showed us #GreaterLove, we can share that love with others through inviting them to worship with us.

In the weeks leading up to Easter and Christmas, stake councils are invited to consider whether displaying large signs outside meetinghouses in their stake would be an effective way to invite the community to worship with us on these religious holidays. They should counsel with ward councils on what might be best in different areas.

To help unify the look and messaging of these signs globally, stake leaders are invited to download these designs and customize them to add worship times. Leaders should use local unit funds to print and display these signs.

Please consider the following as you print and install the banners:

  • Do not attach signs to the meetinghouse.
  • Do not attach signs in a way that causes permanent damage to structures (fences, posts, etc.)
  • Consider local signage ordinances as applicable.
  • Ensure the sign can be easily read by a passerby. The farther away from the street the sign is placed, the larger the sign will need to be.
    • Local printing agencies may be able to help with determining the appropriate size for where the sign will be placed.
    • Maximum sign size should be 2.5 feet x 7 feet (0.76 meters x 2.13 meters).
  • Please ensure that your signs meet local and government standards and regulations.
  • The banners should not be displayed on temple properties, even if the temple shares space or fences with a meetinghouse.

To ensure displaying signage outside meetinghouses is not overused, please reserve these types of communications for only Easter and Christmas.
