About This Issue
This Month’s Theme: General Conference
Dear friends,
General conference is a pretty big deal around here.
Church magazines employees work overtime to get the messages of our leaders out to the world as fast as possible. And YA Weekly is no different—every May and November, we have special issues based around the most recent general conference.
We take our rather long publication schedule (six months, when you factor in reviews and translation) and get it done in just one month. It’s a lot of work. We write fast, we edit fast, and we do it twice a year.
Why?
Because general conference is proof that God still speaks to us today.
And if you’ve forgotten what a miracle it is to have God’s word pour down from heaven every six months, we hope these articles will remind you.
Here are stories from young adults who felt the power of God this conference:
-
A missionary nearing the end of his service who learned to approach the future with faith instead of fear
-
How several talks helped one young adult understand she is always worthy to pray to Heavenly Father
-
What we can learn from this conference’s multiple mentions of the parable of the ten virgins
-
A young adult who realized that reverence was the answer to finding peace in a busy world
-
What we can do to move forward with faith in Jesus Christ if our questions weren’t answered this conference
We also have stories that are part of our ongoing series:
-
From the Mission Field: What counsel have prophets given about serving missions?
-
Applying the Doctrine and Covenants to Your Life: Support for your Come, Follow Me study about how holiness can protect us from the storms of this world
-
I Believe: How a young adult stayed firm in his faith even as others around him were leaving the Church
The messages of conference are real, essential, and immediate. They are what Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ want you to know and live—right now.
We hope this issue helps you better understand how to hear Their words.
With love and lots of hope,
Alison Wood, YA Weekly Copyeditor
