“Fathers,” New Era, Aug. 1989, 29

Fathers

I guess it was about ten years ago,

but I remember it so clearly.

I was sitting in front of my mom’s

makeup mirror at the kitchen table.

Curiously, I pulled my stringy brown hair

away from my face.

A plain reflection stared back at me.

I didn’t notice

that my dad had been watching the whole time.

He grinned and said,

“Are you trying to see the face

your Heavenly Father sees?”

At the time, I couldn’t figure out how to answer

or why he even asked me that.

But now, I don’t think he really wanted an answer.

Fathers are just like that.
