“Issues,” New Era, Sept. 1971, 20

Issues

The issues of contemporary life were the general subject matter of the workshops of the recent international conference of the Student Association of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In each discussion group were seated a hundred or more Mormon youths who wanted to know how the gospel squared with the problems of contemporary life, particularly the issues that they would face as they returned to school. They needed assistance in answering many questions asked by non-Mormon friends, and they came looking for insight and perspective.

Their questions were probing and scintillating. To cover the discussions, the New Era assigned a team of youth reporters. Because of the nature of their reports, the issues discussed, and the questions raised, this features replaces, for this month only, the regular “Q&A” department.
