1010 Amazing Grace 1. Amazing grace—how sweet the sound— That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, Was blind, but now I see. 2. The Lord has promised good to me; His word my hope secures. He will my shield and portion be As long as life endures. 3. Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come. His grace has brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. This beloved hymn reminds us of Nephi’s anguished cry: “O wretched man that I am!” Then, remembering the Lord’s mercy, Nephi added, “My soul will rejoice in thee, my God” (2 Nephi 4:17, 30). The text of this hymn was included in an early hymnbook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1841.
