Joseph of Egypt

Jesus Christ

Joseph was a shepherd (see Genesis 37:2).

One of Christ’s names is “the good shepherd” (John 10:11).

Joseph was sold as a slave into Egypt (see Genesis 37:26–28).

Jesus was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver—the price of a slave (see Exodus 21:32; Matthew 26:15).

Joseph’s brothers did not recognize him when they came to Egypt to buy food (see Genesis 42:7–8).

Christ’s people did not recognize Him as the Savior (see Luke 4:22, 28–29; John 1:10).

Joseph revealed himself to his brothers when they came to speak with him a second time (see Genesis 45:1–5).

Christ will be revealed to Israel at His Second Coming (see Matthew 24:30–31; Doctrine and Covenants 88:104).

By following God’s guidance, Joseph had enough bread to save Egypt from famine (see Genesis 47:13–19).

Jesus Christ is “the bread of life” (John 6:35; see also verse 51).
