All Africa Service Day Initiative Continues to Bless Communities in West Africa

Latter-day Saints help plant 15,000 tree seedlings in Ghana

For the 15th year, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints working with friends and partners engaged in various acts of service across West Africa on Saturday, 21 August 2021, to mark this year’s All Africa Service Day initiative. This year’s projects were carefully selected in adherence to COVID-19 protocols to protect participants against the virus.

Participants focused on tree planting, cleaning, and painting of health facilities, police stations and other public buildings, street and house numbering, blood donation and donation of materials to orphanages.

In Accra, Ghana, the Church partnered with the parks and gardens department to plant about 15,000 tree seedlings in the country to help beautify and protect the environment. Similar tree planting exercises took place in Calabar and Umuahia, both in Nigeria. In Togo and Cote d’Ivoire, the Church partnered with government health officials to donate blood to the blood banks.
