3. Learn more about hope

To have hope is to have confidence in good things to come (see Ether 12:4). We can have hope, even when life is hard, because we have faith in Jesus Christ and His promises (see Moroni 7:40–41). Because of Him, every wound can be healed, every tear can be dried, and everything that is unfair can be made right.

Here are some questions and learning activities you could try:

  • Are faith and hope the same thing?

Read Alma 32:21; Ether 12:4; and Moroni 7:40–48 together. See if you can write your own definitions of hope and faith, based on your discussion. What do the Savior and His gospel inspire you to hope for?

    Faith is: __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

  • How do you find hope in Jesus Christ?

Leaving the Garden of Eden was surely hard for Adam and Eve. Read what they said in Moses 5:6–11. Why were Adam and Eve hopeful for the future? How do you find hope in Jesus Christ during difficult times in your life? Hope is an assurance that things will work out (see Doctrine and Covenants 98:3).

  • How can studying the scriptures bring us hope?

Read Romans 15:4 and Jacob 4:6 to learn about how the scriptures have brought hope to God’s children in the past. How does “feasting upon the word of Christ” make your hope brighter? (see 2 Nephi 31:20). Maybe you could share with each other a few scriptures that bring you hope. Make a plan for how you will find more hope in the scriptures.
