Digital Only: Service Missions
No Two Missions Look Alike
This is the Lord’s work—everyone just has a unique role in it.
I served eight months as a teaching missionary in Los Angeles, California, before transferring home to a service mission in Utah. Despite the different assignment, I know that the calling to serve a mission and help others come unto Christ is the same.
What It Looks Like for Me
Every missionary serves in unique assignments, so no two schedules look exactly alike. I serve at four different service sites weekly.
I serve at a bishop’s storehouse once a week. I help pack food orders for families in need, and I offer comfort to all who come through the doors. I also volunteer at a free clinic as an interpreter and patient technician. I help check patients in, translate for those who speak Spanish, and learn procedures from incredible doctors.
When I’m not at the clinic, I work with the For the Strength of Youth magazine team. I’ve loved hearing from the youth. Their testimonies strengthen my own! On the weekends, I serve as a temple worker.
The unique thing about service missions is that they allow you to use your spare time wherever the Lord needs you. For me, some days that means going with the teaching missionaries to a lesson, or volunteering at a local animal shelter. Other days, it means spending time with my family or visiting someone who needs support.
Blessings from Missionary Service
My mission has meant the world to me. I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to serve in so many ways—let alone every day. Each of my assignments has brought my family and me so many blessings. I’m grateful that I can continually meet new people and form new friendships.
I know that God puts us in places where we’re needed. He knows each of us in a unique way and gives us opportunities to grow how He needs us to. This is His work—everyone just has a unique way of doing it.
