How can I know that I hear the Lord’s voice in my life?
President Russell M. Nelson has invited us to “think deeply and often” about how we hear Jesus Christ and to “take steps to hear Him better and more often” (“‘How Do You #HearHim?’ A Special Invitation,” Feb. 26, 2020, blog.ChurchofJesusChrist.org).
We can hear Him through the scriptures and the words of prophets. But it’s not just hearing or reading those words that is the key. Through the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord explained:
“It is my voice which speaketh [these words] unto you; for they are given by my Spirit unto you … ;
“Wherefore, you can testify that you have heard my voice” (Doctrine and Covenants 18:35–36).
In addition, seeking to hear Him is not something we do in spurts. President Nelson has said, “It takes conscious and consistent effort” (“Hear Him,” Apr. 2020 general conference [Ensign or Liahona, May 2020, 89]).
As you study, pray, worship, serve, and obey the Lord’s commandments, He will bless you with His Spirit and, through Jesus Christ’s Atonement, will change you. Then you can know you have heard His voice.
