Hello from Tonga!
Tonga is a country of islands in the South Pacific Ocean. More than 100,000 people live there. Their official languages are Tongan and English.
A Friendly Place
Tonga has also been called the Friendly Islands. There are more than 170 islands in the country.
Rugby
Rugby is Tonga’s national sport. Rugby teams often perform a traditional Tongan war dance before games.
Farm Food
About half of the land in Tonga is used for farming. The most common things to farm are squash, bananas, coconuts, and vanilla beans.
Lots of Sharks
There are many different kinds of sharks in Tonga! Some of the common sharks are the blue shark, bull shark, and the silky shark.
Stone Arch
This stone monument was built thousands of years ago by the Tongan king to honor his two sons. Each stone weighs about 70,000 pounds (31,751 kg)!
