Scripture Carrier

To make a carrier for your scriptures, or to make one for a girl, you will need: 18″ (45 cm) vinyl or heavy fabric, two 14″ (36 cm) lengths of 3/4″ (2 cm) wide grosgrain ribbon in color to complement fabric, one 3″ (8 cm) strip of 3/4″ (2 cm) Velcro fastener, scissors, and needle and thread or sewing machine.

  1. Cut vinyl or fabric into following pieces: one 10″ x 16″ (25 cm x 40 cm) piece (main cover), two 5 1/4″ x 10″ (13 cm x 25 cm) pieces (inside flaps), two 2″ x 14″ (5 cm x 35 cm) strips (handles), one 2 3/4″ x 6 1/2″ (6 cm x 16.5 cm) piece (fastener flap). Seam allowance is 1/4″ (6 mm) throughout.

  2. Fold each handle piece lengthwise, with right side in, and sew, forming tube. Turn right side out, press flat, and sew on ribbon.

  3. Pin handles to edges of cover on right side of fabric, with loops in center.

  4. Sew one part of Velcro down center of wrong side of fastener flap. Other part of Velcro is attached to center of outside front of main piece, running parallel to long edge and beginning 1″ (2.5 cm) from short edge. Pin fastener flap to center of short front edge of carrier, right sides of fabric together (see Figure 1).

  5. Attach end flap to each end of main cover by sewing around three sides (See Figure 2). You will be attaching handles and fastener flap at same time. Turn carrier right side out.

  6. Fold down top and bottom edges of cover between end flaps. Sew small 1/4″ (6 mm) seam around entire outside edge of carrier (see Figure 3).

Carrier will hold complete set of scriptures (Bible and triple combination) in regular size.
