Church Recreational Camps Resource Page
The Purpose of Recreational Camps
Church camps are meant to help the youth gather away from worldly influences, build lasting gospel-centered relationships, enjoy safe and wholesome recreation, and strengthen their faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
Camp is an opportunity for youth to practice patterns of gospel living away from worldly influences and challenges they may face in their daily lives.
Everything we do at camp should help the youth do the following:
- Draw closer to our Heavenly Father and the Savior Jesus Christ
- Develop and strengthen testimonies of the restored gospel
- Promote strong spiritual values, self-worth, and character
- Show reverence and respect for the Lord’s creations
- Learn and improve leadership skills
- Participate in meaningful service
- Foster caring and nurturing relationships
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can make reservations at Church camps?
Only members can make reservations. However, non-members are welcome to attend with other members.
When will I be able to make a reservation?
Reservations open according to a priority schedule. The priority schedule can be found on the homepage of the reservation site. All reservations open at 8:00 a.m. Mountain Time on the date listed in the schedule.
Can I reserve the camp for Sunday use?
Generally, camps are closed on Sunday unless approved by the area presidency. If approval is given to stay through Sunday, persons staying through Sunday are invited to attend Church services nearby and engage only in activities that conform with the spirit of the Sabbath.
Do I need permission slips for attendees?
Every participant—including both youth and leaders—needs a signed Permission & Medical Release form before they are able to participate in any camp activities.
The unit’s youth leaders are responsible for collecting these forms.
Am I required to receive a background check before supervising a youth camp?
Please contact the Meetinghouse Facilities Recreational Properties Group (Tel: 801-240-1000) for information regarding background check requirements.
Are pets or service animals allowed at Church camps?
No pets or emotional support animals are permitted at Church recreational camps, even if they stay in your vehicle. Service animals may be allowed at some Church recreational camps. Please check with local camp personnel. For the Church’s general policy on service animals and emotional support animals, please see Church Policies and Guidelines: Service Animals.
How do I plan a Pioneer Trek for my youth group?
To request a trek reservation, please visit https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/learn/historic-sites/trekking-at-the-wyoming-mormon-trail-sites?lang=eng.
What if I am not assigned to a camp?
You do not need to be assigned to a camp to make a reservation. The reservation system is meant to be used as a resource to help Church members find a place to camp. Members are also welcome to utilize other local or state camping sites to meet their needs.
