Sophos is the only antivirus and firewall software approved for use on Church-owned computers. If a Clerk Computer has other antivirus or firewall software installed, please remove them and install Sophos.
In order to ensure computers are kept up to date, they must be turned on for at least four to five hours a week. This allows them to download required updates and security patches.
Download and Install
The install file and instructions are posted on the Download Desktop Security Software (Sophos) page. You will need to sign in using your LDS Account to access this page.
Password or Tamper Protection
This feature prevents unauthorized users and known malware from disabling or uninstalling Sophos security from your computer. In the rare case that you need temporarily to disable the Sophos firewall, a password is now required. Please contact the Global Service Center to obtain the password, since it changes every 90 days.
When a system identifies a potentially suspicious file, Sophos checks it with a global intelligence network to determine if the file is a threat and, if it is, blocks it. This process occurs instantaneously.
Note: If you believe Live Protection has found a virus and a Sophos support agent asks for a copy of the log file, you will need to work with the Global Service Center (GSC) to determine the best course of action. If needed, the GSC will directly engage the Church client-side operations team to review the file and make sure no confidential information is included.
To learn more, visit Sophos Live Protection.
Scanning for Viruses
Even though Sophos constantly scans the files on your computer, you can manually initiate a scan:
- Click the Sophos shield icon in the system tray to open the Sophos Endpoint Security and Control window.
- Click the Scan My Computer link to begin the scan.
For additional help, click the Help Topics on the left side of the screen.
If Sophos is working correctly, your system will automatically update regularly.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Global Service Center.
