Variety Show

What makes you unique? What fun and creative act can you perform? It’s time to amaze and astonish everyone during the Variety Show portion of For the Strength of Youth (FSY) Conferences. You can tryout to perform an act or just watch and cheer for other youth as they perform. This fun afternoon will showcase extraordinary acts from musical and dance performances to yo-yo demonstrations.

Come to FSY prepared for tryouts scheduled in the afternoon on Day 2 and Day 3. Be creative. The more "variety” you bring to the show, the more likely you will be selected to perform. More information on tryouts will be available at registration and from your counselor. Don’t worry, if you are not selected to perform at the variety show, you can share your talent with your company.

Variety Show standards:

  • Acts must not contain any vulgar or suggestive movements. For safety reasons, lifting and acrobatic movements are not allowed.
  • When you include music in your act in any way (piano, vocal performance, or background music, etc.), please ensure that your musical choices are clean, with no suggestive words or messages, including songs that mention substances contrary to the Word of Wisdom. Songs cannot be used if you have changed the lyrics to be in compliance with FSY standards.
  • Food or liquid of any kind may not be used (including toothpaste).
  • Because we want to respect the reverence of Church music, please do not audition with any Church-related musical numbers or scriptures.
  • Performance content must be entertaining, yet clean and uplifting.
  • The costumes you plan to wear for the Variety Show must be worn to the dress rehearsal. No pajamas, please.
  • Shorts must come to the knee; shirts must always be worn without revealing the stomach.
  • Dancewear must be modest. If it is too tight or revealing (such as leotards), it must be covered with a shirt or costume of some sort.

“To each of you, I say that you are a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father. You have come from His presence to live on this earth for a season, to reflect the Savior’s love and teachings, and to bravely let your light shine for all to see.”

Thomas S. Monson, Be an Example and a Light, Ensign, November 2015
