To the Youth: 10 Teachings from President Boyd K. Packer

Check out 10 things President Packer taught the youth!

President Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, passed away on July 3, 2015. President Packer began as a seminary teacher and often spoke to the youth of the Church, whom he called “precious beyond measure.”

Here are just 10 of the things he taught the young men and young women.

    1. “Our beloved, precious youth, stay in the Lord’s way. If you stumble, rise up, go on. If you have lost your way, we open our arms and await your return” (“Ye Are the Temple of God,” Ensign, Nov. 2000).

    2. Look forward to your future.

    3. “Find happiness in ordinary things, and keep your sense of humor” (“Do Not Fear,” Ensign, May 2004).

    4. “Get an education. Even if at times it seems hopeless. With determination and faith in the Lord, you will be blessed with success. It is a dream well worth pursuing” (“To Be Learned Is Good If …,” Ensign, Nov. 1992).

    5. Seek the blessings of the Word of Wisdom, including personal revelation.

    6. Heed the promptings of the Holy Ghost, and you will be protected.

    7. “When you have a problem, work it out in your own mind first. Ponder on it and analyze it and meditate on it. Pray about it. I’ve come to learn that major decisions can’t be forced. You must look ahead and have vision” (“How to Make the Choice,” New Era, Jan. 2014).

    8. Do your best.

    9. “Be patient with your parents. They love you so deeply. They are emotionally involved with you, and they may become too vigorous as they set their guidelines for you to follow. But be patient. Remember, they are involved in a big do-it-yourself child-raising project, and this is their first time through. They have never raised a child just like you before” (“You’re in the Driver’s Seat,” New Era, June 2004).

    10. The gospel plan is the great plan of happiness. Your choices affect your happiness.
