How Do I Get Started?
There are several things you can do to get help on your path to self-reliance. The following list should start you on your way:
- Visit your local self-reliance center, often located in the family history center at your stake center. The volunteers at the self-reliance center can guide you through the My Path to Self-Reliance assessment which is the start of your participation in the self-reliance initiative.
- Download a copy of My Path to Self-Reliance booklet.
- Complete the My Path to Self-Reliance booklet to determine what you need to be self-reliant.
- Select the group that will help you become self-reliant. Read the self-reliance group descriptions below and decided which group you are interested in joining:
Starting and Growing My Business
Group members learn how to create or improve a functioning business. They practice key business principles for self-employment such as record keeping, marketing, and cash management.
My Job Search
Group members identify good job opportunities and practice networking, presenting themselves powerfully, preparing for interviews, and excelling on the job.
Education for Better Work
Group members identify a job or skills that will help them become self-reliant. They find the Best Local School or Program (including Pathway) that leads to that job. Group members also prepare for a Perpetual Education Fund (PEF) loan, if appropriate.
- If you are doing this alone, contact your local self-reliance center for group meeting times. Each group meets for 12 meetings that last about two hours each time.
