My Calling

Have you recently received a calling in the Church? Perhaps you’ve been called to the Relief Society or elders quorum; maybe your service will be in the Sunday School or with the youth. You might be the new nursery leader or a member of the stake presidency. Regardless of what your Church calling is, you doubtless have a desire to serve well and fulfill your duty.

A big part of that desire stems from our understanding that in the Church women and men are “called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority” (Articles of Faith 5). Knowing that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have placed great trust in us to fulfill callings creates not only a desire to fulfill our duties, but to magnify them. “How does one magnify a calling?” asked President Thomas S. Monson. “Simply by performing the service that pertains to it” (“The Sacred Call of Service,” Ensign, May 2005, 54).

But what if you’re not even sure what “the service that pertains to [your calling]” is?

My Calling Information Page

In a revelation given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord taught, “Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence” (Doctrine and Covenants 107:99). In order to help members learn their duty in their callings, the Church has created a special section of the Gospel Library called My Calling.

In this special section, every Latter-day Saint can find information on their calling—from a family history consultant to an area seventy. Additionally, Church leaders and anyone charged with training recently called individuals can visit the My Calling section to find information that can help them as they help ward members.

Using My Calling to “Learn [Your] Duty”

You can find the My Calling page by visiting the Callings and Training homepage. In addition to a link to your personalized My Calling page, you’ll find other helpful resources on the Callings and Training page. In addition to messages from Church leaders, you can search callings by organization—such as Temple and Family History, priesthood quorums, Relief Society, Primary, Sunday School, and more. You can also find essays on different topics to improve your leadership.

When you’re ready to learn about your calling specifically, simply click the Get Started button under My Calling to access personalized information about your calling. You’ll be taken to a page where you can read more or watch videos about your calling. Information is being constantly added to these pages, so you may want to check back often to see if more has been posted.

Your Calling, Your Commission

We often think of Doctrine and Covenants 4 as the great missionary commission, but this wonderful section also teaches key principles for anyone with a calling. A calling is an invitation to be a part of the “marvelous work … [coming] forth among the children of men.” As you “embark in the service of God” with “all your heart, might, mind and strength,” you will find that the Holy Ghost can be a guide and help. Section 4 counsels and promises “ask, and ye shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” One of the ways your calling can be opened unto you is through the My Calling section of the Gospel Library.

Remember, as you learn more about your calling and then go forth to serve church members and others, you will actually be serving your Heavenly Father (see Mosiah 2:17). You will find great blessings and wonderful lessons as you learn your duty and how to act in the office you have been called to.
