Telephone Overview

Phones and phone lines are sometimes provided in meetinghouses to enable members to call for emergency support or to provide a published phone number for a priesthood leader. The phones are billed locally and charged back to the facilities management group (FMG), which is also responsible for contracting phone services, installation, and setting up audioconference contracts.

However, with the proliferation of personal mobile phones, the need for phones and phone lines in the meetinghouse is diminishing. It is also the FMG’s role to remove phone services if they are not needed. A technology specialist (TS) is to manage phone services and records, troubleshoot phone support issues, and help enable priesthood leaders to hold audioconferences.

TS RESPONSIBILITIES:

FMG RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contracting phone services, including installation
  • Removing phone service if not needed
  • Setting up audioconference contracts as needed

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • If there is a problem with telephone wiring, if a handset stops working, or if a stake president would like additional telephone wiring installed in a meetinghouse, the stake president should work with his FMG. Please note that the FMG is not responsible for providing newer phone handsets, hands-free headsets, or cordless phones; this is the responsibility of the stake.
  • If a stake president would like to request the addition or removal of phone line services, he may contact the Church’s Global Telecommunications Management Services (GTMS) group at GTMSinventory@ChurchofJesusChrist.org or 801-240-9966. The GTMS group may, for example, be consulted with requests for adding or removing voice mail or call forwarding.
