Background

When Church leaders and members follow the Church’s financial policies and procedures, they protect themselves and the Church’s sacred funds. To fully protect Church leaders, members, and funds, leaders need to understand:

• Why each policy and procedure is important.
• How policies and procedures work together to protect Church leaders, members, and funds.
• How to put each policy and procedure into practice so that it achieves its purpose.

When a leader does not fully understand these things, or when he does not carefully follow a policy or procedure, he may put Church funds, himself, other Church leaders, and even Church members at risk.

Purpose

The audit’s “Policy and Procedure Review” section helps the stake auditors determine how well unit leaders understand and apply Church financial policies and procedures. What auditors learn from this section can guide them when they test such things as deposits or financial statements later in the audit.
