Limited-Use Recommends Frequently Asked Questions

Issuing book recommends should be discontinued as soon as possible, and the recommend books destroyed.

The existing recommends are valid through their expiration date. They should be replaced as soon as possible (even if they have not expired) with a recommend using the online system.

The system will have a question display that will ask if you want to cancel the current recommend and issue a new one. If Yes is selected, the current recommend will be canceled and the system will allow you to proceed with issuing a new recommend.

The links are listed under the Membership tab under the heading, ‘Limited-Use Recommends.’ There are two types of limited-use recommends, Limited-Use Recommend for Baptisms and Limited-Use Recommend for Sealings. The baptism recommend is bar coded; the sealing recommend is not.

No, priesthood leaders should issue recommends only to members in their ward or branch. Family members attending a sealing that live in another ward or branch will need to meet with their own priesthood leader to obtain a recommend.

The name needs to be changed on the member’s profile page.

1. Go to Membership/Records/Member List and click on the person’s name.

2. When the window opens, click on View Member Profile. This will open the Member Information page.

3. Under the ‘Preferred Name’ field, change the name to the name you wish to be printed on the recommend.

No, both the priesthood leader and the member should sign recommends by hand.

The Limited-Use Recommend for Baptism is activated once it is printed out. No further action is required. The Limited-Use Recommend for Sealings is not formally activated.

No, bishopric counselors, clerks, and the executive secretary may also print recommends.

The Limited-Use Recommend for Baptism is bar coded, which will allow you to report it as canceled, lost, or stolen in the LCR system.

Log into:

1. Leader and Clerk Resources.

2. Enter the membership number of the member to open up their information page.

3. Select Active under Temple Recommend (Limited-Use) and then select Edit.

4. In the Limited-Use Recommend window, click on the up/down arrows to display the drop-down menu.

5. Select Canceled or Lost or Stolen.

6. Select Save.

Recommends that have been deactivated cannot be reactivated. A new recommend will have to be issued.

In Leader and Clerk Resources, go to the Reports tab. Under the Temple Recommends heading, click on Youth Recommend Report. You can also view the Limited Use Recommends in the Temple Recommend Status report. You can filter for the type of recommend in the third drop-down window from the left.

The Youth Recommend Report is also available from a link on the right side of the Limited-Use Temple Recommend for Baptisms pages.

Go to Contact Information. A Contact Information page will open, from which you may select a country. This will open a page with the appropriate contact numbers for your area.
