Create a Membership Record

Policy and Principles

From General Handbook, 33.6.2, “Members of Record” on ChurchofJesusChrist.org: “For statistical and reporting purposes, the following individuals are members of record. Each of them should have a membership record:

  1. Those who have been baptized and confirmed.
  2. Those under age 9 who have been blessed but not baptized.
  3. Those who are not accountable because of intellectual disabilities, regardless of age.
  4. Unblessed children under 8 when (a) at least one parent or one grandparent is a member of the Church and (b) both parents give permission for a record to be created. This includes children of converts. (If one parent does not have legal custody of the child, the permission of the parent who has custody is sufficient.)”

When a full-time missionary interviews a convert for baptism, he fills out the Baptism and Confirmation Record using the Preach My Gospel app. After the baptism and confirmation, the missionaries record the information in the app which creates the membership record and assigns it to the ward. The ward clerk reviews the information in LCR and completes the member profile.

After the record has been created, the clerk should print two copies of the Individual Ordinance Summary. He gives one copy to the convert for review. The other copy is given to the full-time missionaries and will be used by mission offices to verify record creation.
