This Month’s Theme: Wise Media Use

Hi, my friends!

I’m thrilled that you opened this month’s issue of YA Weekly on your device! Isn’t it amazing that we have access to so much information right at our fingertips (especially in the Gospel Library!)? The miracle of modern technology makes it possible to stay connected to others and have instant access to inspired gospel teachings.

Amid the opportunities and goodness, though, the adversary also knows what harm excessive media use can do spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

Sobering feeds showcase tragedies and contention throughout the world.

Books, movies, video games, and music are filled with an increasing amount of inappropriate (and sometimes downright evil!) content that is becoming more popular and normalized.

The rise of artificial intelligence makes it hard to know what’s real.

And many of us are scrolling so much on smartphones during any sort of free time that it’s hard to simply be still.

Everyone seems to have different standards when it comes to what to watch, what to read, what to like, what to share, and what to believe. Heavenly Father has provided a way for us to know what is right. So, to hopefully offer you some help, this month, you’ll find stories like these:

Tips for finding and recognizing truth in a world full of deceiving voices
A sister from Peru’s tips on changing your social media algorithm so it serves your spirit instead of draining it
Reflections from multiple young adults about avoiding the temptation of gambling apps and other fast-money scams, especially when facing financial insecurity

In a world oversaturated with spiritually destructive media, I’m more grateful than ever for our Savior Jesus Christ and His Atonement. He knows our struggles and temptations and can strengthen us to make better choices as we strive to improve our media habits in small yet powerful ways.

Surround yourself with faith-filled friends, learn from the wise young adults featured this month, listen to and implement counsel from the Lord’s prophet and apostles, and seek Christ’s influence each day, over the world’s.

As I make the Savior my priority and strive to do these things, I feel more confident, faithful, peaceful, and hopeful each day. I hope you will too.
