More than pushing the keys

I have played the piano for six years, but lately I have been neglecting my practice. I read the article “An Instrument in His Hands” in the November 1997 issue. I got to thinking about it, and I realized that playing the piano is more than just pushing the keys to make a sound. My playing could really mean something to someone, even if I don’t know it. I want to thank you for printing this article. It really means a lot to me.

Shouldn’t listen

I really liked your June 1997 Question and Answer about music. A month before I read that, I bought a CD that I didn’t know had some bad songs on it. My mom read through the lyrics and told me I shouldn’t listen. I then told my mom I couldn’t even hear the words. So I listened to it anyway and actually felt pretty bad. Even though I had heard the song before, I had never felt so bad listening to it.

Look forward

I would just like to thank you for all the wonderful things that are in this magazine. It’s great to know that there are many members of the Church my age dealing with the same things. I look forward to getting the New Era, and I love the message and feeling of peace it brings to me.

None of the other stuff

A lot of people think I’m too young to read the New Era. I don’t listen to them because I know whenever I read the magazine there will be no pornography, bad language, or other inappropriate things in it that you can easily find in other magazines.

Truly strengthens

I would like to thank you for publishing such a wonderful magazine. I’ve been reading it since I joined the Church in 1991, and I can say that it helps me a lot to stay in the Church. Now I’m on a mission, and I still enjoy reading the New Era. It truly strengthens my testimony of the gospel, and it always gives me the desire to become a better person. There are not enough words to express my appreciation. Keep it up. You have touched many Filipino lives.

Being a better person

I am so thankful for the New Era. I really like all the issues, especially the Q&A and the August 1997 article “Universal Language.” I love to read each new message and the articles about other youth. The magazine helps me as a Latter-day Saint to be a better person. It also strengthens my testimony and encourages me to be a good person who loves others.

Well, almost

I thought I’d write to express how grateful I am for your January 1998 New Era. It was like the entire—well, almost the entire—magazine was written for me personally. One part especially has helped me to realize that I must leave a door open for success, even when some disappointment comes my way. The article “The Good List” helped me reach such a conclusion. Thank you.
