Called to Serve
New Apostle
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland was ordained as an Apostle on June 23, 1994. A General Authority since 1989, he has most recently served in the presidency of the North America West Area.
Elder Holland was born on December 3, 1940. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University, where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He also received master’s and doctorate degrees from Yale University. In 1980, Elder Holland was named BYU’s ninth president. Previously he was the Church’s commissioner of education and dean of the College of Religious Education at BYU. He and his wife, Patricia Terry Holland, are the parents of three children.
