Pray the Rain
August 1990

“Pray the Rain,” New Era, Aug. 1990, 31

Pray the Rain

Pray the rain down Seth

Don’t chase black winged crows

From the dry fields

Or brush rats through

The same empty ditches

Pray the rain down Seth

Don’t fight with the grass fires

And strain at the smoke

Your stinging tears

Won’t water the scorched earth

Pray the rain down Seth

None of our shovelings or

Cursings or shouts

Will turn the course of the clouds

In the acid blue noon sky

Pray the rain down Seth

Melt your rigid knees

Incline your sweaty brow

Until your eyes grow moist

And your faith yields dew
