Isaiah, Voice of Prophecy—
The Coming of Christ

In the scriptures of the Old Testament no words are more beautiful or more powerful than those of Isaiah. These words of prophecy stand as heralds to the peoples of the Old Testament and as words of beauty and truth to those of us who read them now. The accompanying photographs by Don Thorpe were taken in and around Jerusalem where Isaiah fulfilled his ministry, and around Bethlehem where the light promised by Isaiah came into the world. These pictures do not pretend to portray any actual scenes or locations but do capture the feeling and beauty of the land of the birth of our Savior.

“Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation.” (Isa. 28:16.)

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isa. 7:14.)

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.” (Isa. 9:2.)

“Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city.” (Isa. 52:1.)

“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” (Isa. 52:7.)

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isa. 9:6.)
