Daniel 1

Faithful Young Israelites

The Babylonians believed that magicians and fortune-tellers had the power to know the future. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, decided to see if he could train young captive Israelites to see the future. As you read, look for how the faithfulness of some of these young men brought the blessings of the Lord and amazed the king.

Studying the Scriptures

Do activities A and B as you study Daniel 1.

  1. Apply Their Example

Daniel and the other young men provide a great example of being true to the faith and of how the Lord blesses those who are faithful to Him. Consider the following situations and suggest a solution based on what you read in Daniel 1:

    1. You and your classmates have important exams coming up. Some of them take pills to keep awake so they can study longer. They offer you some. What do you do or say?

    2. You just got your first job. You want to make a good impression. At an important office party everyone is expected to toast the boss with an alcoholic drink. What do you do?

  2. Physical and Spiritual Blessings

Ways Daniel and His Friends Were Blessed

    1. List the ways Daniel and his friends were blessed because of their faithfulness to the Lord.

    2. How are the blessings these young men received like the blessings promised to those who obey the Word of Wisdom in our day? (see D&C 89:18–21).
