Overview
We observe Easter to celebrate the Atonement and Resurrection of the Savior Jesus Christ. It is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on what He has done for us.
Note: For this week of instruction there is a lesson prepared to help your students reflect on the peace and hope Jesus Christ offers them. It is a lesson designed to help students prepare for Easter. If there are enough available teaching days this week and you feel it would be effective to do more than one lesson to prepare your students for Easter, consider some of the following ideas:
-
Teach a lesson based on a general conference address about Easter. The Topics and Questions page for Easter at ChurchofJesusChrist.org, has a link entitled “Messages from Church leaders” that highlights multiple talks that could be effective, such as these: Russell M. Nelson, “The Answer Is Always Jesus Christ,” Liahona, May 2023, 127–128; and Gary E. Stevenson, “The Greatest Easter Story Ever Told,” Liahona, May 2023, 6–9. Lesson 207: “Template: Teachings of Church Leaders” may also be useful in preparing this lesson.
-
Use the “Easter Study Plan” to help students walk day-by-day through the last week of the Savior’s life. Each day’s study includes a quote from Church leaders, scriptures to study and ponder, videos to watch, and a hymn that may be useful.
-
Use “Prophets ancient and modern testify of the Savior’s atoning sacrifice,” a supplemental idea included in this week’s instruction, as a lesson.
-
Teach one or both of the following lessons found in the Doctrine and Covenants teacher manual: Lesson 162: The Living Christ, Part 1; Lesson 163: The Living Christ, Part 2.
Prepare to Teach
The following information provides suggestions for what you may need to prepare before each lesson.
Easter
Lesson purpose: This lesson can help students reflect on the peace and hope Jesus Christ offers them.
-
Student preparation: Invite students to do one of the four numbered activities at the end of the lesson. For example, study “The Living Christ” document, looking for phrases that testify of the peace and hope the Savior offers. Encourage them to come prepared to share their favorite phrases.
-
Content to display: Display a picture of Jesus Christ on the cross, such as “The Crucifixion” and a picture of the Savior’s Resurrection, such as “Christ and Mary at the Tomb”
-
Videos: Encourage students to watch the following videos: “The Peace and Hope of Easter” (5), “The Prince of Peace” (2:32), and “Because He Lives” (2:28)
