2 Kings 16–25

2 Kings 16–25

Overview

Because they broke their covenants with the Lord and rejected His servants the prophets, the Lord chastened and scattered the kingdom of Israel, or the Northern Kingdom. The Assyrian army conquered the Northern Kingdom and carried away captive the ten tribes of Israel that generally populated the Kingdom. This resulted in what is generally referred to as the lost ten tribes. When the Assyrians tried to conquer Jerusalem, King Hezekiah asked his people to trust in God. The Lord spared Judah by destroying the Assyrian army. Later another righteous king, Josiah, led the Southern Kingdom. He found the book of the law and helped his people live according the Lord’s commandments. After Josiah, wicked kings ruled the Southern Kingdom. The Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem and took its inhabitants into captivity.

seminary iconHelp learners find personal relevance in the doctrine of Jesus Christ. When the Savior taught in parables, He allowed the learner to disover how the teachings related to them personally. The Savior invites us to find personal relevance in His teachings. We can help learners discover the relevance of the gospel of Jesus Christ by helping make connections between His gospel and their lives. To learn more, see “The Savior Helped People Find Personal Relevance in His Doctrine” (Teaching in the Savior’s Way [2022], 23) An example of how to do this can be found in Lesson 86: “2 Kings 18–19.”
