Overview

Under the direction of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ created the earth. On the sixth day of creation, Adam and Eve were created in the image of God. The Lord joined Adam and Eve together in marriage and commanded them to multiply and replenish the earth.

Prepare to teach

The following information provides you with ideas of what you may need to prepare in advance for each lesson.

Genesis 1:1–25

Lesson purpose: To help students feel love and gratitude for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as they study the Creation of the earth.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to ponder the beauty of the earth and all of God’s creations. Invite them to bring a picture of or be prepared to talk about something in this world that they enjoy.

  • Images: Beautiful building that is popular in your area; beautiful landscape near your area

  • Content to display: Chart representing the first six days of Creation; scriptures for students to study listed under the heading “The Savior’s role as Creator”; options for students listed under the heading “Express gratitude for the Creator”

  • Video:We Lived with God” (4:00)

Genesis 1:26–27

Lesson purpose: To help students feel the importance of their identity and potential as sons and daughters of heavenly parents.

  • Student preparation: Invite students to memorize or review the opening lines of the Young Women and Aaronic Priesthood themes and to reflect on the significance of each statement:

    • “I am a beloved daughter of heavenly parents, with a divine nature and eternal destiny.”

    • “I am a beloved son of God, and He has a work for me to do.”

  • Content to display: Timeline from beginning of the lesson

Genesis 1:28–31; 2:1–25

Lesson purpose: To help students understand the central role of marriage and family in Heavenly Father’s plan of salvation.

  • Student preparation: Invite the students to study “The Family: A Proclamation to the World,” looking for teachings that describe why family is central to Heavenly Father’s plan of salvation.

  • Content to display: Incomplete sentences at the beginning of the lesson; statement from “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”; instructions, statement, and scriptures for the study activity under the heading “Teachings from the scriptures”; instructions for students to create a response at the end of the lesson
