Welcome to the Old Testament
Welcome to the Old Testament
Overview
The Old Testament records God’s earliest dealings with His children on earth. In this sacred book of scripture, we learn of Jesus Christ through His teachings as the premortal Jehovah. We also learn of prophecies and symbols that testify of Him.
Teach about the Titles, Roles, and Attributes of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ has many titles, roles, and attributes that help us understand how He is central to Heavenly Father’s plan. Helping students identify and understand these can help them feel closer to the Savior. To learn more about why this is important, see “Teach about the Titles, Roles, and Attributes of Jesus Christ” section of “Teach about Jesus Christ No Matter What You Are Teaching” in Teaching in the Savior’s Way. An example of how to do this can be found in the lesson “The Plan of Salvation.”
Prepare to teach
Note: Your seminary may not be in session during some or all of the week these lessons would be studied as part of the Come, Follow Me schedule. Consider teaching “Introduction to the Old Testament” on the first day of the course, regardless of when that will take place. You could teach “The Plan of Salvation” when it seems most convenient, perhaps even midway through the course.
The following information provides you with ideas of what you may need to prepare in advance for each lesson.

Lesson purpose: To help students increase their desire to come closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through their study of the Old Testament
-
Student preparation: Consider inviting students to review a favorite story from the Old Testament and ponder what that story might teach about Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ.
