My Calling as a Young Men Secretary

Who Do I Work With?

Young Men in the Ward

Build sincere relationships with the young men in your ward to help them feel loved and help them come unto Christ. Encourage them to seek the guidance of the Spirit in fulfilling their sacred roles as young men and Aaronic Priesthood holders.

Young Men Presidency

As a Young Men secretary, you work under the direction of the Young Men president. You support and sustain him as you accept and prayerfully fulfill responsibilities he may delegate to you. You also seek inspiration so that you can use your unique gifts to bless the young men and other leaders in Young Men. As you counsel together with the Young Men presidency and seek to follow the example of the Savior, you will gain insights and inspiration about how best to minister to one another and to those you serve. (See Handbook 2, 8.3.4–8.3.5.)

Bishopric

The bishop and his counselors are the presidency of the Aaronic Priesthood in the ward. The Young Men presidency serves under their direction. You may work with a member of the bishopric or the ward clerk to fulfill assignments the Young Men president gives you. (See Handbook 2, 8.3.1.)

Quorum Presidencies and Assistants to the Bishop in the Priests Quorum

Members of the Young Men presidency are advisers to quorum presidencies and assistants to the bishop in the priests quorum. They help the bishopric teach quorum leaders how to use their priesthood keys to direct the work of the Aaronic Priesthood. As the Young Men secretary, you instruct quorum secretaries in their work keeping quorum attendance records and other duties.

Young Women Presidency

Work with the Young Women presidency to coordinate activities, efforts, and goals to help you minister to the youth you serve.

Assistant Aaronic Priesthood Quorum Advisers and Others Who Serve in Young Men

Work closely with assistant quorum advisers and leaders to ensure that Young Men attendance records are accurate and to learn how you can support assistant quorum advisers and leaders in their callings. (For information about callings in Young Men, see Handbook 2, 8.3.)

Parents of Young Men

“Parents have the first responsibility for the spiritual and physical welfare of their children (see Doctrine and Covenants 68:25–28). The bishopric and [Young Men] leaders support but do not replace parents in this responsibility” (Handbook 2, 8.2). Counsel with each young man’s parents to better understand their son’s needs, interests, talents, and abilities. Invite fathers of young men to participate as much as possible in Young Men activities.

Stake Young Men Presidency

The stake Young Men presidency will be a resource to you, providing support and ongoing encouragement. In stake Young Men training meetings, you will receive instruction to help in your service.
