Lesson 79: Alma 14

Prayerfully consider how the Book of Mormon Videos might help your students identify, understand, feel the truth and importance of, and apply the doctrine and principles taught in the Book of Mormon. Each suggested video is a short segment within an entire episode. Use the start and stop timecode to show each clip within the episode.

“Alma and Amulek Are Delivered by the Power of God” (2:34)

Alma and Amulek witness the suffering of the righteous.

Using This Video

You could show this video segment when you arrive at the part of the lesson that states:

“Invite several students to take turns reading aloud from Alma 14:1–10. Ask the class to follow along, looking for examples of the suffering experienced by the people listed on the board.”

Instead of inviting several students to take turns reading aloud from Alma 14:1–10, you could display the following questions from the teacher material and then show this video segment.

  • “What did these people suffer?”

  • “When Amulek saw the suffering of the women and children, what did he want to do?”

  • “Why did the Lord permit these women and children to be burned?”

After students watch the segment, invite them to discuss their answers to the questions. As they do, encourage them to mark in Alma 14:1–11 phrases that support their answers. Then proceed with the lesson as outlined in the teacher material.

You could show this video segment when you arrive at the part of the lesson that states:

“Divide the class in half. Have one half of the class search Alma 14:14–18 while the other half searches Alma 14:19–24. Ask both groups to look for what Alma and Amulek suffered at the hands of the wicked leaders of Ammonihah.”

Instead of dividing the class in half to read, you could display the following question adapted from the teacher material and then show this video segment.

  • What did Alma and Amulek suffer at the hands of the wicked leaders of Ammonihah?

After students watch the segment, invite them to discuss their answers to this question as indicated in the part of the teacher material that says this:

“When students have had sufficient time to read, ask them to report what they have found. List their answers on the board under ‘Alma and Amulek.’”

As they discuss, encourage them to mark in Alma 14:14–24 phrases that support their answers. Then proceed with the lesson as outlined in the teacher material.
