Lesson 60: Mosiah 15–17

Prayerfully consider how the Book of Mormon Videos might help your students identify, understand, feel the truth and importance of, and apply the doctrine and principles taught in the Book of Mormon. Each suggested video is a short segment within an entire episode. Use the start and stop timecode to show each clip within the episode.

“Abinadi Testifies of Jesus Christ” (3:13)

Abinadi teaches and testifies of Jesus Christ.

Start and Stop Timecode: 14:36–17:49

Using This Video

You could show this video segment when you arrive at the part of the lesson that states:

“Invite several students to take turns reading aloud from Mosiah 16:2–5, 12. Ask the class to follow along, looking for who Abinadi indicated will not be redeemed from their sins.”

You could display these questions from the lesson and invite students to look for answers as they watch the video:

“According to these verses, who will not be redeemed from their sins?”

“What happens to the diagram on the board if the offender persists in sin and refuses to repent?”

As students discuss their answers to the questions, encourage students to mark in their scriptures phrases in Mosiah 16:2–5, 12 that they feel are important. Invite them to share what they marked. Then proceed with the lesson as outlined in the teacher material.

“Abinadi Testifies of Jesus Christ” (2:48)

Abinadi suffers himself to die.

Start and Stop Timecode: 18:50–21:48

Using This Video

You could show this video segment when you arrive at the part of the lesson that states:

“Summarize Mosiah 17:13–18 by explaining that as Abinadi was being burned to death, he prophesied of future events, including the consequences that King Noah and his people would suffer because of their wickedness.”

You could show this video segment in place of reading the summary to the class. To help students understand the content of verses 13–18, invite students to look for which future events Abinadi prophesied of as they watch. After the video, briefly invite students to share. As they discuss, make sure students understand that Abinadi prophesied of the consequences that King Noah and his people would suffer because of their wickedness. Then proceed with the lesson as outlined in the teacher material.
